Learning to Sew (and Proud of it!)

When I first told people I was learning to sew, I got a lot of slack. “Okay housewife,” joked a friend. “What a domestic thing for you to do,” said another. Others just laughed—my own mother even.

Listen here, I think it’s cool. I can’t wait for the day that I can alter and make my own clothes. Until then, it just so happens that I found a great place to start out that is just around the corner from my house.

Where: The Workroom at 1340 Queen St. W.

The goods: small class sizes, a lovely instructor (Karyn) and I walked out of my first class with a fabulous pillow in tow (pictured above). These would make great DIY gifts and if you don’t own a sewing machine, you can come in to sew by the hour. There are also a slew of other interesting classes I want to take, like how to make skirts and coin purses.

PS: I’d also like to point out that upon reading this post my good friend Kristina emailed me saying, “YOU’RE SEWING!!!!!!!!!!!! I was unaware that hell froze over!”
